T-Ply Hot-Tops and Cap Boards

T-Ply products (commonly known as Hot-Tops and Cap Boards) are insulating mineral-based specialty

products used to line the insides (Cap Boards) and tops (Hot-Tops) of steel ingot molds.

Designed to be either preset in the mold prior to teeming, or placed on the rising metal at the end of

the mold fill, Thermatex Exothermic/Insulating Cap Boards are used in place of more traditional

powders to improve existing hot topping operations by maintaining the steel temperature in the head of

the riser during solidification.

Thoroughly tested and field proven, Thermatex T-Ply Hot-Tops and Cap Boards allow molten steel to fill the

body of the mold as solidification occurs during the cooling stage. This results in improved

segregation pattern, pipe reduction, and elimination of smoke and fume difficulties, all of which

reduce hot topping costs and improve performance and quality.

Thermatex products are designed to maximize the yield of sound metal through uniform mold coverage,

resulting in a consistent and high purity steel that is mandatory for products such as bearing steels,

valves and valve bodies, mining/drilling equipment and other critical applications.

 

New! Ingate Gaskets

Thermatex Ingate Gaskets are designed to be placed around the ingate prior to the ingot mold being set in place, forming a protective "ring" .

The barrier created reduces spillage, waste, cleanup time and of course, cost. Adjustable, universal fit.

 

Thermalite

Thermalite ceramic fiber material is a blend of high purity silicate ceramic fibers, combining both organic and

inorganic binders for handling strength and shape integrity at high working temperatures.

It resists oxidation, reduction, and attack from most corrosives. Thermalite vacuum-formed shapes can be surface treated

on one or both sides, forming an inorganic protective shell for extra strength, or impregnated throughout the entire shape

for an almost rock hard density making them the strongest of all vacuum formed products.

Custom shapes and special applications as well as inorganic formulations are available including

Thermalite flexible wet blankets molded to almost any surface configuration.
